About Artsonia

 Dear Dyer/Brown Families,

I have used Artsonia for the last 10 years to guide students in building their own digital art portfolios.  Our schools’ art galleries can be viewed by searching for Dyer or Brown Elementary School on the Artsonia site.

Your student’s artwork will be viewable in the online art gallery only if you give permission. If you do not give permission, the artwork will remain hidden to all except for myself and your child.  If you are new to Dyer, or are a Brown family and have not given permission in the past, please click on Brown or Dyer and enter your child's name to get connected to their portfolio.

Participating in Artsonia provides many benefits to students, parents, teachers and schools:

Digital Portfolio:

Your child’s digital art portfolio is an excellent way for me to assess artistic growth over time. It is wonderful to see the increased pride that students feel while viewing and managing their digital art portfolios. Students are inspired to try their best, knowing that their work will be on display for family to see. You can even upload other artwork your child has created at home, to their Artsonia portfolio.  Download the free Artsonia app to try this out!

Increase family involvement in student art education:

Parents and family members can take a much more active role in their child’s art education by viewing the artwork online, joining the child’s fan club, and leaving supportive comments in the artist guestbook. This feedback from family, including relatives who may not live nearby, is priceless in the development of a child’s artistic confidence.  Please know that by registering you will occasionally get emails from Artsonia letting you know when new artwork has been added or if your child’s artwork has received any comments. You will be able to review and approve the comments of fan club members if you wish for them to be posted publicly.

Financial support for art program:

After student artwork is published online, parents and family may purchase keepsakes from the museum with the child’s artwork printed on it, and 20% of the revenue is given to our art program for supply purchases. You will get emails about these options too, but you can opt out of these kinds of communication if you wish.

Integrate technology into the classroom:

I photograph and upload artwork for Grades K-1, while Grades 2-4 are in charge of their own photography, upload, and upkeep of their digital portfolios.

Common Questions about Artsonia:

How does Artsonia ensure privacy for young students?

On the Artsonia website, each student is identified only by a screen name which is usually the student's first name and number (e.g., Sarah22). Last names are never publicly posted on the website. Additionally, all comments are pre-approved by the registered parent before being posted for the artist.

Who owns the copyright of the artwork submitted?

Artists retain ownership of their artwork. However, by registering as a parent of an artist, the parent grants Artsonia the right and license to publish the artwork in the museum and on merchandise. For more details, see our Terms and Conditions at www.artsonia.com/terms.asp

How long will the artwork be published?

Artwork may remain published on the website indefinitely until either the parent or the school chooses to remove it.  For more information: http://www.artsonia.com/privacy.asp

Please let me know if you would like to be connected to your artist's portfolio but you do not want it to be visible to anyone else. You can email me at burmanma@spsdme.org
